SCHEINER, HARVEYAge 89, died October 3, 2012 in Albuquerque New Mexico after a long illness. He was born August 13, 1923 to Moe and Pauline (Pep) Scheiner in Brooklyn, New York. Harvey has been an Albuquerque resident since 1979. Harvey served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a true hero of World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with 6 additional air medals, having flown 38 combat missions over the Pacific Islands. He proudly participated in annual reunions with fellow Marines of Squadron VMB-413 for many years. After the war, Harvey was active as both an owner and Senior Executive in New York's ready-to-wear industry. He and Phyllis, his wife of 67 years who preceded him in death last March, raised their family in East Meadow, New York, and later owned and operated successful retail stores in Ft. Lauderdale and Albuquerque. Harvey loved life. He was an avid golfer, tennis player and baseball player, who threw a great knuckleball. He and Phyllis loved to travel, cruised the globe many times, had friends and relatives throughout the world, and loved to stay in touch with them all. He is survived by his son, Wayne Scheiner and his wife, Christy Ortega of Albuquerque; daughter, Karen Oakes and her husband, French Oakes of Missouri City, Texas; sister, Selma Lurie of Boca Raton, Florida; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful caregivers who helped so much over the past months. As he always said, "Fly high and fast" dear Papa Harv! A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE.
