Harrith M. Hasson, MD passed away peacefully in the arms of his family and friends on September 22, 2012. He is survived by: Sharon Sharrett, his beloved spouse and professional partner; his three sons Joseph (MaryBeth), Barry, and Amir (Emma); and his grandchildren Charlie and Annie. He was born in Tanta, Egypt on October 11, 1931, first child of M. Hassan Ahmed, MD and Bussiana Radwan. He graduated from Ein Shams University Cairo, Egypt in 1955. He began his residency at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Brooklyn NY in 1959 and completed his residency in Ob/Gyn at West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park in 1966.Dr. Hasson's professional accomplishments include: Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Ob/Gyn 1976-1981; Chairman of Ob/Gyn at Grant Hospital in Chicago, IL 1981-1995; Founder & President of the Society for the Advancement of Contraception 1982-1985; President of the AAGL 1993-94; Chairman of Ob/Gyn at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL 1996-2003; and President of the SLS 2007-2008; Clinical Professor at University of Chicago Ob/Gyn 1996-2003; Volunteer Faculty at the University of New Mexico 2003-2012.Dr. Hasson was the pioneer of Open Laparoscopy, dedicating his career to the improvement of women's health. He was awarded 53 patents on surgical and educational devices and techniques. He was a prolific author of medical abstracts, books, and video with more than 400 publications. Dr. Hasson maintained a private practice in Chicago for 30 years, during which time he delivered over 3,000 babies.
