Harris Ivan Sanders, "Red", of Albuquerque, NM, passed peacefully on May 7, 2016 at the age of 80, with his family at his side after his long battle with Alzheimer's. Our hearts are broken for our incredible loss, but we rejoice that he is now with the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his step-son, Kevin Kirkwood; his brother, Neal Sanders; his ex-wife (mother of his four children) Nancy Newton; his parents, Norma and Ivan Sanders; and his devoted St. Bernard companion "Hoss".
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon; his 4 children, Greg (Bridgett), Cindy (Glenn), Will and Quin; 7 grand-children; 5 great-grand-children; 2 sisters; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Red was born April 28, 1936 in Hickman, NM to the late Norma and Ivan Sanders. He was raised along with 1 brother and 2 sisters in Durango, Colorado. He graduated from high school and served as a volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol while there. He married and moved to Albuquerque where he became a career long haul truck driver as a member of the Teamsters Union. Red met and married Sharon Kirkwood in 1982. They moved to North Carolina where he continued to drive. After his retirement they returned to Albuquerque. Red's passion was music and storytelling. He was an entertainer, had the gift of gab, was always willing to lend a hand, and never met a stranger.
Life celebration to be held 10:00 am Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at French - Lomas (505-275-3500), 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Elder Curtis Burnett officiating, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pall Bearers Justin Sanders, Tristen Rondeau, Christian Sanders and Weldon Sutherland.
