Harriet Gerding, age 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 after a brief illness. She is survived by her sons, Patrick R. Gerding and wife, Stephanie of Seattle, WA, Michael W. Gerding, of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Richard L. Gerding; and sister-in-law, Eileen of Farmington, NM; her stepsister-in-law, Millie McMahon of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Flint Morris; granddaughters, Madeline Gerding and Melanie Morris; grandson, J.T. Morris and wife, Kristi; great-granddaughter, Laurel Morris and great-grandson, Tyler Morris; nieces and nephews, Chris and David Gerding, Bett Clark, Mollie and Jack McMahon, and Deena, Dan, Doug and Don Bryce; and many other family and friends. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bob Gerding; her daughter, Laura Gerding Morris; her parents, Ralph and Martha Loken; and her stepbrother-in-law, John McMahon.
She was a graduate of Santa Fe High School, attended Colorado College, and graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Business. Harriet was one of the school's early women graduates and was inducted into the UNM Alumni Association's Heritage Club in 2010. She was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Junior League of Albuquerque. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the Albuquerque Family & Child Guidance Center. She was a breast cancer survivor and active in several New Mexico organizations seeking cures for the disease.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Percy and Ann Larranaga, Chris Gerding, Bett Clark, and Presbyterian Hospice for their wonderful care and assistance.
A Memorial Service will be Friday, March 31, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH -Lomas. Private Interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Gerding Youth Fly Fishing Adventure c/o Four Corners Home for Children, PO Box 1230, Farmington, NM, 87499.
