Harold Anding Johnson

July 2, 1949 — December 24, 2014

Harold Anding Johnson departed this life on December 24, 2014. He was a devoted friend and family member, but most of all, a true disciple of Christ. Born on July 2, 1949 in Albuquerque, NM, he was the son of John Andrew and Marion Anding Johnson. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church, a graduate of Highland High School of Albuquerque and was an Eagle Scout. He held an undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico, a Master's degree from Mississippi College, and a graduate degree from Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary. He spent many years with the First Baptist Church of Porter, TX, where he served as Associate Pastor of Education and Administration and proved vital in reorganizing the church finances, instituting fundraisers, and filling in for different ministries. Vacation Bible School was dear to his heart. When his family needed him, he moved back to Albuquerque to care for his ailing parents and handicapped brother - happy to be able to be with them. While there, he was an elder of the X Factor Christian Fellowship Church, where he taught Bible Study and was instrumental in Vacation Bible School. He felt he had found another "family." He was able to move back to Porter earlier this year and said he felt as though he was "returning home." He was teaching the College and Career Sunday School class and the Wednesday Night Bible Study. He loved being there. Harold was an avid hunter and spent many of his most wonderful times hunting with friends throughout Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Janelle, and his brother, John Andrew Johnson, Jr. He leaves behind his cousins, Jean Johnson Chunn (Bob) of Raymond, MS; Cyrus C. Johnson III (Kathy) of Memphis, TN; Virginia Anding La Charite (Raymond) of St. Augustine, FL; Vernon Sessions Pleasant Jr. (Sally) of Brandon, MS; many extended family members, and many friends. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In addition, a Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Porter, TX on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Foundation in care of First Baptist Church of Porter, TX, 24570 FM 1314 Road, P.O.
