Harold L. Bennett, age 88, a resident of Albuquerque for almost 30 years, died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at home with his family at his side.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patsy; children, Marjorie Bennett, Frances Symons and husband, Edward, Joyce Leatherwood and husband, James, Lawrence Bennett, Daniel R. Bennett, and James R. Bennett; grandchildren, Rachel Robinson and husband, Paul, Sarah Bennett, Sean Bennett, Lucas Leatherwood, and Joshua Symons; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Bennett; sister, Kay Howard; and numerous other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Bennett and Elsie Childs; sister, Marian Ellifritz; and brother, Bob Childs.

He was born in 1930 in Grand Junction, CO and graduated from high school in Laramie, WY where he spent his senior year with his uncle, Ray Morgan. Harold then enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served for four years. He then attended the University of Wyoming where he obtained his BS in civil engineering. Harold married Patsy Dalton in 1956. He worked for the Federal Highway Administration Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1981. Harold was involved in the planning, designing, and building of the Federal Highways during the Eisenhower Administration. After retirement they moved to Western Colorado where he became certified as a professional engineer and started his own consulting firm. He loved fishing, gold-mining, western Cowboy hats and boots, and spending time at their cabin "grandpa trap" in the mountains.  Harold never met a stranger, was very generous, and was very kind hearted, taking care of his family always.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Harold's name to the Roadrunner Food Bank, 5840 Office Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM  87109.
