Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Gwyneth O. Frye, gained her Heavenly wings and went to her eternal home on November 12, 2024.
Gwen was born on December 8, 1930 in Tip, Arkansas to William E. Totty and Jewell R. (Jelks) Totty. She lived her formative years in Arkansas and graduated from McCrory High School in 1949. Shortly after graduating high school, she moved with her family to Roswell, New Mexico. While living in Roswell, NM, she met a very handsome Air Force GI named Russell E. Frye who was then stationed at Walker AFB.
On December 30, 1952, the happy couple married and spent the next 56 years enjoying a very adventurous life together. As a devoted wife of an enlisted military serviceman, she fully supported her husband as he served 28 years to our great Country. Considering it a duty and privilege to serve, they made, shared and enjoyed many, many lifelong friendships that they established at each of their assignments. Gwen absolutely loved remaining in contact with and reminiscing through the stories shared by these family friendships that enriched all our lives.
The regular military moves allowed Gwen to experience several occupations throughout her employment career. She enjoyed working for Kay Jewelers in Sacramento, CA, banking in Columbus, MS and for the Department of Energy in Albuquerque, NM. Gwen also modeled and was an active participant with the NCO Wives Club. Although very successful in her many endeavors, her proudest assignment and accomplishment was her role as a Mother and Grandmother.
Anxiously waiting to greet Gwen were her beloved husband Gene, her parents and her sisters Lee Buck and Jenny Arrington. Left to mourn the enormous loss of Gwen are her daughter Rhonda, granddaughters Renee Thompson and Rachel Herrera (Victor), great grandson Landon Stewart, sister Billie Decker (Don), brothers-in-law Gerald Frye (Leslie), Kim Frye and Richard Arrington. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
Arrangements for Gwen Frye are set for a Visitation on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 6pm-8pm at French’s Mortuary located at 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Services for Gwen will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 10am at the French’s Mortuary location on Lomas Blvd and Burial will follow at 2pm in Santa Fe, NM at the National Cemetery.
