Guvana Taylor Holcomb, area resident, passed peacefully at home with her family at her bedside on September 15, 2015 at the age of 78 after battling cancer. She was born May 1, 1937 in Stevens County, Kansas, to Bert and Freeda Taylor. Guvana is survived by her eldest sister, Rovena Gale Hukil. Her younger brother Kevin Dane Taylor, along with her mother Freeda died tragically in a car accident just before Christmas in December of 1970. Her father Bert Taylor, a successful farmer passed away in April of 1993. Guvana is survived by her very loving husband Robert Howard Holcomb, born October 5, 1935, and their very loving children, Tracy Renee Holcomb, Kent Robert Holcomb, and Sean Courtney Holcomb, and only grandchild Kylar Lane Holcomb. Guvana and Robert (or Bobby) both lived less than 5 miles down a country road from each other. They were sweethearts in high school and graduated together in 1954 from Hugoton High School, Hugoton, Kansas. Guvana attended college at KU, where she majored in Art and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Bobby was attending college at OSU, and proposed marriage she said because he missed her so. Guvana transferred to OSU and they were married on August 9, 1955, and recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary together. Guvana and Bob created a memorable home for all 3 children at their home on 853 Wheelwood, and made many wonderful friends while in Fort Worth, Texas. Guvana was a loving mother and was involved in many activities and charities, President of the PTA, Preschool, President of the Neighborhood Association, President of the Art Club, and for many years was an avid reader, competitive bridge player and volunteer for the March of Dimes. Guvana also had a very successful career in business as a Buyer for the Light Store, Cummings Lighting, and as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of The Texas Workforce Commission, before she retired in 1999. However, being first and foremost an artist, Guvana was drawn to the Southwest for inspiration, so she and her husband moved to Albuquerque where she became a dedicated artist and a member of the Pastel Society. Here they made many dear friends as well, and the Holcomb Family would like to thank each and every one of them for all of their help, their prayers, their assistance, and their visits during the time when she was very ill. We are so thankful. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception.
