Gordon Rubert Zahm, 100, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died Tuesday, February 25, 2020.
Gordon was born on November 28, 1919 in Madison, Wisconsin. He grew up on a farm in northern Illinois, where he developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the outdoors. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and subsequently worked as a machinist for Ingersoll in Rockford, Illinois. Gordon and family moved to Albuquerque in 1952, where he worked for Sandia Corporation as a machinist. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, bowler and loved to garden. He was a self-taught carpenter, using the skill to build a family cabin in northern New Mexico. He was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed seeing the Cubs win the World Series.
He is survived by his sister, Bette Lou Nesbitt of Dublin, Georgia; two sons, Gary (Joan) of Los Banos, California, and Kim of Albuquerque; five daughters, Lauren Greenacre (Bob), Kristie, Kay, Cheryl (Susan) of Albuquerque, and Kathy Bartlett of Santa Fe; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Edna (“Chick”).
A Interment Service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020, 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107.
