Celebration of Life for Gloria Yoder
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Gloria Yoder, a remarkable woman whose warmth, curiosity, and generosity enriched everyone she touched.
A Life of Discovery and Connection
Born on December 7, 1942, in Dallas, TX, Gloria grew up with a deep love of learning and a dedication to her spiritual path. Her parents, William and Jewel Mackey, nurtured her sense of curiosity, which would become a defining feature of her life. Gloria's pursuit of knowledge was profound, spanning scripture, the Talmud, and even the complexities of physics and the universe.
Gloria's intellectual spirit was matched by her sense of humor and her ability to connect with people. She saw humor as a bridge-a way to bring people closer, find common ground, and illuminate life's lighter side.
A Love of Stories and Exploration
Gloria's passion for storytelling extended from sacred texts to the imaginative worlds of science fiction. She cherished evenings spent with her family watching B-rated sci-fi films and diving into the utopian ideals of Star Trek. For Gloria, these stories weren't just entertainment; they were a way to dream about equity, exploration, and the boundless possibilities of the universe.
Even when unable to explore physically, Gloria's mind traveled far, propelled by her curiosity and love for learning. She inspired others, especially her sons, to expand their horizons, whether attending lectures on physics or exploring new ideas through books and research.
A Beautiful Soul, Inside and Out
Gloria appreciated beauty in all its forms. From flowers and art to the hidden beauty within people, she found joy in both the obvious and the overlooked. Her capacity to see the best in others was a gift she shared freely, making everyone she met feel valued and understood.
A Legacy of Giving
Gloria's life was one of service. Whether volunteering with S.A.F.E. house, advocating for Jewish burial traditions, or assisting young adults in critical thinking, Gloria's actions were deeply rooted in compassion. She extended her mitzvahs beyond her immediate community, dedicating herself to helping others, from supporting older adults with their social security to fostering a sense of hope and purpose in all she encountered.
