GLORIA ERLINDA (VALDEZ) SANDOVALAge 70, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away at 8:25 pm on Monday, January 28, 2013, at home after a battle with kidney cancer. Gloria was born in Raton on April 25, 1942, to Paul and Lillie (Guillen) Valdez. She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Lucy Trujillo; uncle, Carlos Trujillo and brothers, Marcello Valdez and Stanley James Trujillo. Gloria graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Trinidad, CO in 1960. She owned and operated Gloria's Cafe in Raton from 1960 to 1961. She met the love of her life, George Sandoval while on a trip to California. They were married in Trinidad, CO on August 1, 1964. George and Gloria settled in Raton where she held her profession in the medical field. While living in Raton she was a member of St. Joseph's-St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Gloria and George moved to Albuquerque, NM to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Community. Gloria is survived by her husband of 48 years, George Sandoval; son, Dr. Paul C. Sandoval; daughters, Dana Conger and husband Scott, Lisa Alwin and husband Troy; granddaughters, Megan Bigbie and Taylor Alwin, all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Duran of Pueblo, CO; mother in-law, Phyllis Sandoval of Albuquerque; special son, Chad Tivis of Albuquerque, and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Pallbearers will be Hector Verdin, John Verdin, David Sandoval, Manuel Sandoval Jr., Troy Alwin and Chad Tivis. Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Gloria to the UNM Cancer Development Office MSC07 4025, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131-0001.
