Glenn Wonn

d. September 21, 2017

Glenn Wonn died on September 21, 2017, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was born in Las Vegas, NM on June 26, 1935 and has spent much of his life in New Mexico.  He called himself a Northern New Mexico Anglo Native.  His parents were Stanton Harold Wonn and Frances Mae (Barrett) Wonn.

Following his service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Glenn attended the University of New Mexico, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  Glenn worked at Curtiss Wright, EG&G, Los Alamos National Labs, and other companies, and was part of the early development of computers.

Glenn grew up at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral; his family was among the first members of St. Mark’s on the Mesa Episcopal Church.  Later in life he returned to the Cathedral, where he was a lover and supporter of the music program.  From hi-fi to stereo to digital, Glenn was typically listening to music.

Glenn was a long-time member of the Albuquerque Amateur Radio Club, where he helped many new HAM operators to learn their craft.  Always generous with his time and expertise, Glenn could also teach you to program a computer, grow roses, or set up an irrigation system.  He could fix anything and had all the required parts.  It seemed he believed that if three was good, six was better.

As the family genealogist, Glenn researched the Wonn family as well as the Barrett and Hodges families.  He developed the William Wonn Home Page when online genealogy research was just beginning.

Glenn is survived by his wife, JoAn; son, Stan and his partner, Aldo; son, Patrick, his wife, Renee and their daughter, Reed; sisters, Maelo Crissman and husband, Harry and Debbie Butcher and partner, Bill Farmer; stepson, Rob Wells and wife, Edie; stepson, Larry Wells and wife, Patricia Dickinson and their son, Nicholas; and friends, Pete, Jean, and Darlene DeWolf and Bill Derr.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW, Albuquerque, NM.

Donations may be made in Glenn’s name to St. John’s Cathedral Music (318 Silver SW, Albuquerque 87103), the Albuquerque Rose Society (8408 Vista Verde Pl. NW, Albuquerque 87120), or the Albuquerque Amateur Radio Club (P.O. Box 90636, Albuquerque 87199).
