Glenn Robert Herreid, 96, passed away at home on Monday, April 30, 2023, after a long illness. Born June 22, 1926 in Winona, Minnesota, he was the son of Bert and Hilma (Simonson) Herreid. Having attended schools across Wisconsin (Galesville and Milwaukee), he graduated high school in Appleton, which he considered home. He attended Milwaukee School of Engineering and was a graduate of DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. A US Army veteran, Glenn served in Japan and Korea during the Korean War.
In the late 1950's, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas for employment with Convair. There he met Jo Ann and they were married on July 3, 1959. They moved to Livermore, California where he began a 35 year career with Sandia National Laboratories, transferring to Albuquerque in 1963. Glenn's job was interesting and varied - he traveled all over the United States including frequent visits to the Nevada Test Site. He retired in November, 1992.
Glenn was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1968. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, he was a member of the Scandinavian Club. Other memberships included American Legion Post #99.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie Ragen, as well as his son, James Glenn Herreid in 2009. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo Ann Herreid, his daughter Kristen Herreid of Albuquerque, his son Neil Herreid and wife Tamera of Thornton, Colorado. Also surviving are four granddaughters: Kiala and Gianna Rogers and Chelsea and Xiadani Herreid.
The family wishes especially to thank Glenn's caregivers from Visiting Angels and the staff from Harmony Home Health and Hospice. Their kind and loving care has been greatly appreciated.
