Glenn Craig Bingham

Glenn C. Bingham, age 84, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father Bill L. Bingham of Canyon, TX, his mother Lula Nadine Craig of Deming, NM, his brother John R. Berry of Las Vegas, NV, and his sister Arlene Harmon of Las Vegas, NV. He was surrounded by his loving family and wife of 51 years, Heyla Bingham. He is survived by his daughter Heather Bingham (David Koch) of Albuquerque, NM and stepchildren Mark Barrett of Beulah, CO, Cindy Barrett of Freeport, ME, Karen Barrett Christie of Albuquerque, NM, and Michael Barrett (Denise) of Lake Point, UT. Other survivors include sister Billinda Overton (Bob), brother Bill Bingham, Jr. (Laura), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Known to his family as 'Craig,' he was born in Wichita Falls, TX, but spent his early years in Deming, NM, where he graduated high school in 1956. He joined the Navy in 1956 and served his country with pride for twenty-two and a half years. During his distinguished naval career, Craig worked as an aviation and jet engine mechanic, as well as Crew Chief of helicopter squadrons on several Naval cruise ships. His military service took him on several tours of duty to include Hawaii, the Philippines, Japan, and Vietnam. Craig was honorably discharged in 1978 and retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO).

Following his military career, Craig moved his family to Albuquerque, NM where he began working as a contractor for the military on Kirtland Air Force Base. He retired from contract work in 2002. Craig was heavily involved in scale model building and was a founding member of the Albuquerque Scale Modelers Club. He has an extensive, much admired personal collection, and his work can be seen on display at the Albuquerque International Sunport. Other hobbies included exploring the southwest, spending time outdoors camping with family, and scenic Sunday drives. Craig was also an avid reader, enjoying southwestern authors and a true history buff.

Craig was a devoted family man and was very proud of his marriage of 51 years to the love of his life, Heyla. He was also very proud of his children and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a quiet, thoughtful, caring man, and will be dearly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM at FRENCH - Wyoming. Craig will be memorialized and laid to rest with full military honors at Santa Fe National cemetery on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to your favorite charity in Craig's honor will be appreciated.
