Gilbert Pohl passed away at his home with his wife by his side on Saturday morning September 2, 2023, at the age of 89. Gilbert was born in Moriarty, NM on April 6, 1934. Gilbert graduated from Moriarty High School and shortly after enlisted in the Army. Gilbert started work in the road construction business traveling to the state of NM where he met and married Checko in 1957. Later he became the Superintendent of the asphalt plant for Kent Nolen Construction.
Gilbert's passions were fishing, gardening, Lobo Basketball, and most of all attending his grandkids extra-curricular games and events.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Checko; daughters, Donna Gonzales husband, Orlando, and Darlene Wood; sister, Sarah Cates-Schultz; and six grandchildren, Deanna (La Consentitha), Matthew, Enrique, Ariana, Evan, and Luke and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Moises and Virginia Pohl; daughter, Diana; son, Gilbert (Gibo) and brother, Tony Pohl.
Gilbert will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the love he had visiting anyone he would encounter.
Pallbearers are Evan Wood, Luke Wood, Orlando Gonzales, Eric Pohl, Michael Berg, and Mark Berg. Honorary Pallbearers are Matthew Gonzales, Enrique Pohl, and Joseph Berg.
Funeral service will be held Friday, September 15, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., FRENCH - Westside. Burial will be on Monday, September 18th, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
