September 28, 1931–April 4, 2020

Gilbert, a devout Catholic, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 88, passed away peacefully in his home in Albuquerque NM on Saturday, April 4, 2020.

Left to honor Gilbert is his wife of 64 years, Gloria; his three children, Gilbert Garcia Jr., Sandra (William) Mora, Margaret (Paul) Mares; grandchildren, Sabrina Garcia, Shavanah (Marcelo) Moya, Jordan Garcia, Dominic Mora, Melanie (Zachary) Montiel, Jeremy Mares; five great-grandchildren, Nazarene, Ignacio, Leondro, Ariela, Jessica B.; and many nieces and nephews. Our father was blessed to have shared his love with Adriana, Danielle, Victoria, Stephanie, and their beautiful children. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Rafelita; his three sisters, Lucy, Lucielle, Jenny; and granddaughter, Jessica.

Our father had a very full life, he was raised in Cuba, NM, where he herded sheep on his family's ranch. He also played basketball and baseball for the Cuba Rams. He liked to ride his horse, Red, bare back and race him with friends. When Gilbert was old enough he joined the Navy and served in the Korean War. Our father never met a stranger, he could talk with anyone, he had a wonderful smile and loved to talk politics. Gilbert touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Rosary and Mass Services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwins, 2105 Barcelona Rd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105
