Gilbert Rolando Kemm

Gilbert R. Kemm, 74, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on November 5, 2018.

As a young child, he told his parents that he was going to grow up to fly planes. And he did, for over 33 years. He served in the United States Air Force for five years, flying a C-130 in Vietnam, where he flew aerial runs as well as transporting fallen heroes back home to their families. He then passed on his knowledge as a flight school instructor before he became an airline pilot in 1976. He retired as a Captain for Northwest Airlines in 2001.

He was a natural artist and craftsman of many trades. He designed and built most of the furniture in his home and enjoyed filling his time by creating everything from desks, frames, book cases, shelves, and cabinets. He was a lover of nature, who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. In his later years, he regularly fed the wild bunnies in his back yard as he enjoyed the sunsets over the Sandia Mountains.

Gil will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and gentlemanly demeanor. He was the person who would always offer to lend a helping hand, open the door for you, and make you laugh. He wouldn't’ leave home without a handkerchief, toothpicks, a pen, and aviator sunglasses.

Gil is survived by his wife, Carol, his children, Michael, Michelle, Murisa, and Brian and his siblings, Pat, Gloria, and Karl. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Westside. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM 87501.
