Gilbert M. Garley, Jr.

Gilbert M. Garley, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the age of 82. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born and raised in Bernalillo. He served on the Bernalillo School Board, was elected Sandoval County Treasurer, was active in politics and became a successful businessman. His hard work was displayed in the many successful businesses he owned and operated, which included Aqui Auto Parts NAPA store, Bernalillo Wrecker Service, Bernalillo Car Wash, Garley Construction Co., and the Garley Galleria. Gilbert moved to Albuquerque in the early 1990's and remained there until his passing. Gilbert filled family and friends with many stories of his life, which told of his numerous endeavors, and countless ones that kept us laughing. Gilbert will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert M. Sr. and Emma T. Garley, both of Bernalillo and grandson, Tony C. Garley Jr. of Albuquerque.

Gilbert is survived by his beloved wife Rita Garley, whom he lovingly referred to as "Ritz"; his children, Tony Garley (Rosemary), Lloyd Garley (Maria); step-children Steve Gallegos (Carol), Jolene Gallegos, Joe Gallegos (Linda) and Julie Ann Mitchell; grandchildren, Kiara Garley-Jaramillo (Marcus), Kayla Garley; step-grandchildren, Kristina, Rebecca, Jonathan, Oliver, Estella, Brandon; Gilbert's great grandchild Jaramillo, with an expected arrival this year; and step-great grandchildren, Alicia, Andres and Hana.

He is also survived by his sister Kathy Amador (Roger) and brother Dennis Garley (Evelyn) all of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces Susan Martinez (Joe), Denise Huber (Richard); nephews Ernie Amador (Rebecca) and Paul Amador (Alicia) all of Arizona; aunt Angie Ramirez of California; cousins Charles Tenorio (Gloria) of Albuquerque, NM, and Gloria Chavez of California, both of whom held a special place in his heart; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers: Ray Ashe, Flemie Chavez, Marcus Jaramillo, Chris Perea, Paul Perea, Howard Sandoval, and Charles Tenorio.

Due to COVID Restrictions, a private memorial and funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Live streaming will be available at POPABQ.org .
