On Saturday, January 29, 2022, his Savior and Lord, Yeshua, called Gilbert Mario Arellano to his forever home. Gilbert's passing followed that of his parents, Filimon and Annie Gregorita Arellano; his oldest daughter, Crystal; older brother, Ben Arellano; and sister, Ellen (Irene) Herrera.
Gilbert was born in Santa Cruz on June 3, 1951, and a New Mexico resident for all but a short time in Utah, while working at Dugway Proving Ground. Gilbert and Carol met when both worked at The Storehouse, downtown Albuquerque. They married September 24, 1999, at Valdez Park in Espanola. They found their spiritual home at Olive Tree Congregation, where Gilbert served as an Elder. He also enjoyed working as a school crossing guard until health concerns interfered. His employment always included the element of public service.
Living on and missing Gilbert, his wife, Carol; his daughter, Erica Abeyta (Marcos); grandchildren; nephews; and nieces, of whom he was always proud. Waiting for the coming Heavenly reunion are siblings: Theresa Vigil of Espanola, Patsy Lujan (Ruben) of Fairview, Ed Herrera of Espanola, Rose Vogt (Don) of Denver and Veronica Chacon of Ojo Caliente.
