Geraldine “Geri” Martinez
September 9th, 1962-May 6th, 2017
Geraldine Martinez, Age 54, devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, and in recent years, grandmother, peacefully departed this earth on Saturday afternoon, May 6th, 2017.
Geraldine, or “Geri” as those closest to her knew her, was born through the union of Mr. Mike Lopez and Mrs. Orlinda Lopez on September 9th, 1962, in the City of Espanola, NM. Geri was the youngest of three children, with her eldest brother, Michael, and second eldest brother, Ricky.
Geri spent her childhood and teenage years in the areas in and around the City of Espanola, NM. In the late 1970’s, she met the love of her life, Mr. David Martinez, of Velarde, NM. On December 20th, 1980, David and Geri were unified in Holy Matrimony at the Church of Santa Cruz, in Santa Cruz, NM. The loving couple spent 36 years of their lives together.
Geri was a proud veteran of the US Army National Guard, and served her country during the early 1980’s, following in the footsteps of her father, also a devoted veteran of the US Armed Services and US Government Civil Service.
In May 1982, Geri and David were blessed with their first child, Michelle Lee, and then again in 1988 with their second child, Amanda Diane. With their children at their side, Geri and David lived a blessed, exciting and fulfilling life together. Many summers were spent engaging in activities such as camping, fishing, boating, and spending time with relatives and loved ones. Holidays were also spent in close company of the same people, keeping God close to heart in all occasions.
Later in life, Geri was blessed to bear witness to the marriage of her eldest daughter, Michelle Lee, to Mr. David Moore of Rio Rancho, NM. Years later, she also participated in the marriage of her second daughter, Amanda Diane, to Mr. David Trujillo, of Santa Fe. In 2015, Geri’s longstanding wish of becoming a grandmother was fulfilled when Amanda and David Trujillo welcomed their first child, Atlyn, to this world.
Geri was preceded in death by her mother, Orlinda Lopez, and her grandmother, Louisa Martinez. She is survived by her father, Mr. Mike Lopez; her two brothers, Michael and Ricky Lopez; her husband, Mr. David Martinez, and her daughters, Michelle Moore and Amanda Trujillo. Also surviving Geri are a multitude of spouses, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends, godchildren, and her grandchild that will all miss her dearly.
Geri was a kind, and loving woman, and a devoted wife and mother. She raised two strong, beautiful daughters and was involved with the care and upbringing of many different children of friends and relatives in later years. Anyone blessed with the fortune of knowing Geri knew she was a joy to be around. Her voice, smile, laugh, and sense of humor were all some of her most prominent characteristics, but above all things, her ability to care for others stuck out the most. While her presence on this earth will be missed by many, we take comfort in knowing that heaven just received back one of its angels.
