Gerald L. Wood

Gerald L. Wood was born October 24, 1932 to his parents, Laurence and Gladys Wood.

As a child the family moved several times as his father’s occupation required. The final destination being Albuquerque, where Gerald graduated from Highland High School. He then later met Shirley and they married on August 7, 1954. During their 54 years of marriage they raised three daughters. Early in their marriage God called Gerald to be a preacher. He and his lovely wife Shirley served the Lord in many churches, the first being First Baptist Church in Bosque Farms, NM; then Isleta Pueblo where Pastor Wood preached for three years. Pastor Wood and his lovely wife Shirley then were called to the Rio Grande Baptist Church in the south valley of Albuquerque where they faithfully served for 31 years. From there they and four other families were called to begin Tower Road Baptist Church in the Westgate area of Albuquerque. Gerald has been a pastor since 1958. He has held many positions in the church, and he was a non compromising minister for the Lord. He loved building flower gardens with his lovely wife Shirley. His family and church were very important to him. He also taught Bible College classes to young men that have surrendered to preach and now have their own churches where they are preaching the gospel. One week before his death he was still teaching young preacher men the gospel. In his ministry he baptized over 2500 people, performed 150 marriages and 140 funerals.

He is survived by three wonderful daughters, Cindy Smith and her husband Roger, Bonnie Bird and her husband Danny, and Julie Graham and her husband Spencer; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at Tower Road Baptist Church, 601 86th Street SW, 87121. Interment will follow the Services at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
