Gerald A. Martin, husband, father of six and founder of Gerald A. Martin, Ltd., one of New Mexico's premiere general contracting firms, passed away at home with his family on October 3, 2014 at age 84, after a prolonged illness. Jerry was born on February 18, 1930 in Fort Stockton, Texas to William Aloysius Martin and Lillian Pauline McLain Martin, one of four children, his siblings being: Daniel Martin (deceased), Evelyn Martin Hooper (deceased) and Marjorie Martin Lalicker. Jerry was honorably discharged following his service in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He was instrumental in the construction of the Sandia Peak Tramway. He incorporated Gerald A. Martin, Ltd. in 1974, and built it into one of New Mexico's most successful and respected businesses. In his office, a photograph of Jerry in front of a wooden building under construction in Korea is captioned "First Design-Build Project." Jerry would go on to build many of New Mexico's most notable buildings. These include the Sun Center Office Complex, the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa, Roy E. Disney Center for the Performing Arts, the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, and the Rio Rancho City Hall to name a few. Jerry will be missed and remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, kindly disposition and his innate ability to turn acquaintances into friends wherever he went. He is survived by his wife Victoria Martin; his children, Karen Mooney and her husband Mitchell Mooney of Dallas, Texas, Amy Martin Cole and her husband John Cole of Clermont, Florida, Matthew G. Martin and his wife Patricia Cook Martin of Albuquerque, William L. Martin and his wife Renee Zamora Martin of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico from his marriage to Marcia C. Martin who predeceased him on February 11, 1985; and Jerry and Victoria's sons, Zane A. Martin and his wife, Nevin Martin of Albuquerque and Lee M. Martin and his wife Caitlin Martin of Albuquerque. Services will be held Tuesday, October, 07, 2014, 10:00a.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. Johns 318 Silver Ave. SW.
