BAMMERT - Gerald (Jerry) Bammert, originally from Mohawk, Michigan, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 19, 2021.
Jerry was born on Wednesday, December 10, 1941, son of Ralph and Cecilia Bammert. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Sharon Jensen Bammert; his daughter, Ivellise Schwebach; son-in-law, Dean; and grandchildren, Nathan, Ellysia, Dominic, Addie, Thomas and Elena Schwebach of Moriarty, NM, and Norah McPeek, Anthony and Samantha Smith, of Rio Rancho, NM; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bammert; cousins, Mary Joan Blind and Lani Flemming; nephews, Ralph Bammert, David Bammert, and Steve Sager; and nieces, Susan Ramage and Pamela McCoy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris Melendez Bammert, on Wednesday, October 17, 2007; his mother and father, Ralph and Cecilia Bammert; sister, Eunice McKay; and brother, Ralph Bammert.
Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Calumet High School, a 1962 graduate of Suomi College (Finlandia), and a 1968 graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Police Administration. In between Soumi and Michigan State, Jerry served four years in the U.S. Navy, as a code decipherer during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon graduating from Michigan State, Jerry began a career in the Department of Defense Investigative Service in California and then New Mexico, retiring in March 1996, where he was Chief of the Industrial Security Field Office.
Upon retirement, he assisted in the care of his first wife, Iris, who had suffered a stroke in January 1996. Jerry later worked part time from October 2001 until April 2012 as a delivery driver for a company supplying gold and silver to Albuquerque area jewelry manufacturers. Jerry volunteered as a Biblical Counselor with Calvary Chapel and as a Biblical Counselor at the city Metropolitan Detention Center. He also volunteered in the Evidence Department of the Albuquerque Police Department, and as a patient visitor at the VA Hospital.
Jerry was a kind, gentle, compassionate, faithful, and caring man who put his trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family is grateful for all the love, care, and support of family, friends, and the Presbyterian Hospice Care Team. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church, 8700 Alameda Blvd., NE. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Bammert, Fay "Chug" Garreau, Andrew Smith, Dean Schwebach, Nathan Schwebach, and Dominic Schwebach. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Brown and Dave Camacho. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
