Georgine "Gina" Katsaros, born on Tuesday, December 13, 1960, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Michael and Angelina Katsaros, immigrants of Greece.
Gina was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she lived and attended local schools, eventually graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in education. After graduating, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked as both an educator and administrator for Houston school districts.
After retiring from her career in education in Houston, she moved back to Albuquerque to live alongside family, and again found herself employed as an educator for both Albuquerque Public Schools and the Rio Rancho School District. She retired for a second time in 2022, with ambitions to travel frequently and spend time with her loved ones.
Gina loved to travel to Greece, especially Kalamata (her parents' hometown), where she would spend months enjoying the sun and connecting with the Greek relatives. Her favorite place to pass the time was "Pefkaki Beach," where Gina spent many afternoons listening to the waves while enjoying the food and culture. Outside of traveling, Gina was known for having a green thumb, with an abundance of flowers and vegetables growing around her home and yard.
Gina is survived by her son, Michael Theocharidis; siblings, Maria Cassimus (Marcus Cassimus), Louis Katsaros, and George Katsaros; as well as nieces and nephews, Chris Cassimus, Angela Wiest, and Georgie Katsaros; and former husband Marcus Theocharidis. She extended the love to the children of nephew and niece Chris and Angela, as well. Marilyn, Jacob, Marcus, and Dan were special to Gina. Gina had many friends including Claudia Dominguez, Barbara Pacheco, George Petropoulos and Suzie Cypert who stood beside her during her battle with cancer. Numerous cousins in Greece also played a special part in her life.
Gina stayed devoted to her son Michael throughout her treatments as he was always her top priority.
