Georgia Lou Shaw was born on June 9, 1915, in Lubbock, Texas. A year later, the family moved to Mountainair, New Mexico, where her father homesteaded. She is the youngest of six kids. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Davis and Mettie Maud Shaw; also, by her daughter, Jo Bond; and her grandson, Kyle Bond. Georgia Lou rode horseback nine miles one way when she taught in a one-room school in Chupadero, New Mexico-after having completed two summers at the University of New Mexico. After teaching for two years, she married Carroll Brooks Evans in 1936. They moved to Albuquerque, where Carroll was a jack of all trades. They lived in Several rural communities in the area. Georgia Lou and Carroll had three children, Yrma Jo (1937), William Davis (1943), Martha Fay (1947). Carroll died in 1960. In 1966, she married rancher Frank Aker. She did everything from cooking big dinners for drop-in neighbors to helping deliver a calf in distress. Frank died in 1997. Spanish was Georgia's very close second language. She learned Spanish while teaching mostly Hispanic kids. Of most importance, Georgia loved Jesus and was a serious student of the Bible. She was a blessing to many. Her dedication to God and His Word gave her the strength to be the person she was. She was a blessing to all who knew her. Georgia Lou is survived by her children; Davis Evans (Stephen), Martha Fay Magee (David), and Harvey Bond; grandchildren; Greg Bond, Barry Bond, Clay Bond, Bill Evans, Charlotte Crimi, Tim Evans, Faith Sanchez, Jennifer Magee, Judy Selfridge, Cheryl Hubbard, Jennifer McCarn, Jill Howe, Sandy Hill, Sean Starr; 25 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, December 20, from 2 to 4 pm at French Mortuary, Eubank and Lomas. On Thursday, December 21, the funeral service will be at Cuba Baptist Church at 10:30, burial following at Cuba Baptist Cemetery, with a meal following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 629, Portales, NM 88130 or Baptist International Missions, Inc., PO Box 9, Harrison TN 37341-0009.
