Shute, George Edward
George Edward Shute, 81, beloved Husband and Father, was called to his eternal resting place on February 8, 2018. He entered this world on October 25, 1936 in Brazil, IN, born to Laurel and Marjorie Shute.
George was a loving husband to Linda Shute and father to 6 children; Gloria Menke, Glenda Head, Greg Shute, Gennifer (Jason) Keiser, Amy (James) McAndrew, and April (Bryan) Molina. He had 22 grandchildren; Jessica (Matthew) Liberty, Caleb (Stephanie) Head, Emily (Matthew) Morrison, Bobbi Head, Wesley Head, Elijah Head, Nicholas (Tiffany) Menke, Victoria Grace Menke, Kathryn Elizabeth Menke, Josiah Menke, Benjamin Menke, Ashley (Cory) Green, Andy Shute, Alex Shute, Isabella Minner, Hunter Minner, Charlee Keiser, Shylo Molina, Mason Molina, Autumn Molina, Cassidy McAndrew, and Lochlan McAndrew. He was also blessed with 16 great grandchildren.
George recently was able to spend time with all of his children and 2 grandchildren for a few days. It was miraculous that he was well enough to smile, listen and respond in his own way. Even though his Alzheimer's disease had progressed over the last 10 years, he was happy with the small things in life, including his lemon meringue pie and anything chocolate.
He was a Christian who loved the Lord. As a member of a church wherever he lived, he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school to teens, was a Deacon and Elder, took Communion to shut-ins, participated in a Spiritual Direction group and attended adult Sunday school. He was comforted in knowing that he would go to Heaven.
George was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing. He could catch fish in lakes, streams and rivers. In fact, it was rumored that he had caught THE biggest striped bass out of Lake Norfolk! Hiking and backpacking in the mountains, where he could marvel at the beauty of nature, gave him happiness. He loved tent camping, canoeing, RV trips and riding his Kawasaki 750 motorcycle. Gardening was second nature to him and he won blue ribbons for his garden flowers and produce at the county fair.
As a lifetime learner with several passions, George had many careers. A Korean War veteran, he ran the radio station on Guam. After the military he received his Master’s Degree in Accounting summa cum laude and worked at IBM, Arthur Anderson Accounting firm, in hospital administration, and was the accounting administrator for the state of Nebraska. He taught accounting at the University Of Nebraska. He turned to Psychology to achieve degrees in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology. His work in mental health facilities and private practice included substance abuse, counseling, research in brain development, head injury diagnosis, brain dysfunction treatment, research publications and treating and teaching about Attention Deficit Disorder in children.
Amateur radio was a passion for him from the age of 14 to his life’s end. He believed that “real radios light up”! So he built, operated, taught, learned about, bought and sold radios. He was able to talk to hundreds of people in the US and around the world as a “ham”.
He loved music of all kinds, playing trumpet and French horn in high school orchestra and marching band. Singing and acting in community theatre musicals was a joy for him and he was a natural. He performed in numerous shows such as Music Man, Oliver, Camelot, Annie, and No Time for Sergeants. He enjoyed traveling, taking photographs, trying different foods, being with friends, going to movies, and learning new things.
George lived his life to the fullest, was always ready to laugh, and those of us who knew him were exceptionally blessed to be his family and his friend. He will be missed tremendously. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH -Westside. Please visit our online guest book for George at www.FrenchFunerals.com
