George Robinson

November 7, 1924 — March 27, 2013

Age 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away after an active, full life on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Anna Verne Robinson; daughter, Catherine Robinson and husband, William Hedrick; grandson, George Hedrick; sister, Betty Crowe of York Town, PA; brother, Glen Robinson of High Point, NC and several nieces, nephews and former students. George was a teacher of instrumental music for 31 years in the public schools in Abilene and Lubbock, TX. He was a graduate of Alva High School in Alva, OK and he held degrees from the University of North Texas, the University of Illinois, and Texas Tech University. He started the strings instruction program in the public schools in Abilene and was active in the founding of the Abilene Philharmonic. George was also a founding member of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association and was a past President. From its earliest days George was principal violist in the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. When he retired from teaching, he opened George Robinson Violins in Lubbock, TX. He continued with that business until his retirement at age 80. George was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church USA. Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, 2:30 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd NE. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.
