George Ellis Roberts

December 2, 1929 — February 10, 2023

George Roberts was called to his Heavenly home on February 10, 2023. He was born in Roseville, MI to E.P. and Nettie Roberts on December 2, 1929. He was one of five siblings: Maxine, Gene, Kenneth, and Oris, who is his surviving sibling.

George moved from MI at a young age and lived most of his life in Albuquerque, NM. He met Lucille Brown in Albuquerque and they married in October 1951. They shared a wonderful marriage that was centered on their deep and abiding love and faith for Jesus Christ and each other. They were amazing partners, supporting each other in individual and shared interests, parenting and serving others. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before Lucille passed in February 2021.

He is survived by two daughters, Tracee Saul (husband Douglas) of Clovis, NM and Kelly Roberts of Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren, Amber King (husband Henry) of Albuquerque and Tyler Dolberry of Stephenville, TX. Beloved great-grandchildren are Kassidee, Kamden, and Kolten King. Grandson, Jared Roberts, passed in August 2001. George was Uncle to many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

George served with the NM Air National Guard for 35 + years. He was active duty for the Korean and Vietnam Wars. George enjoyed his job as aircraft mechanic/technician and earned honors and awards in his time with the NM Air National Guard. He rode his bicycle to/from the base for many years. He retired in 1985.  He remained friends with his fellow guardsmen attending breakfast with them once a week when he could thru January 2023.

George loved Jesus and lived to please and give thanks to God. He showed love to others by his words and his actions. He read his Bible in the early morning hours before his family woke up and he left for work. He served at Grace Church, Fellowship Bible Church, Montgomery Heights Church of the Nazarene, Vietnam base chapel and Albuquerque Rescue Mission with his Dad.  He served in roles with the choirs, youth, young adults, Awana, deacons and much more. He played the piano and sang in church, at home, at family gatherings, and with the Young at Heart Choir for 15 years. He had lifelong friendships with several missionaries around the world. He led his family in the way of the Lord. We have fond memories growing up of him praying with us every night before bed.

He enjoyed working on cars, DIY home projects, building a playhouse for his girls, making various home décor and center table settings that Lucille designed. He enjoyed playing games with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He supported them in many activities. He loved a good conversation with friends and family about God, airplanes, cars and many more subjects.

George was a special man to all who knew him. We will miss him dearly. We are thankful he believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior. We know he is rejoicing in Heaven and we can see him again someday.
