George Earl Hon passed away on March 19, 2016. He was born in Englewood, Co. on February10, 1927 to Joseph Mac Leod Hon and Dora Gunnels Hon. He retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Boatswain's Mate. During his military career he served in WWII in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. During his 23 years of active duty he was a member of Joint Task Force Seven and participated in three Atomic bomb test. George is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret A. Hon; son, Michael Hon and wife, Charlene of Bellevue, Nebraska; his daughter, Phylis Underwood and husband, David of Eureka, Ill. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and his brother, Paul, of Santa Fe. Visitation and Celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with remembrances to begin at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 1st, 2016, 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Road NE. Interment will be held at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. George was a good and gentle man. He will be missed by all that knew him.
