George Alan Hauquitz

June 1, 1928 — July 26, 2023

George Alan Hauquitz, of Albuquerque, went to his heavenly home with his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, following a short illness.
Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all, George will be missed by his large family and many friends.

George (Pap Pap to his grandchildren) was born on June 1, 1928, to Osma and Charles Hauquitz. At a young age, his family moved to Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1946, followed by a 2-year enlistment in the US Navy. After his enlistment, he attended the Northrup Institute of Technology in Inglewood, California, where he received his degree in Aerospace Engineering.

While attending the Northrup Institute of Technology, he met the love of his life, Velma Jo Dean. They eloped in 1950 and moved back to Albuquerque.
Soon thereafter, George began 30+ years with the Atomic Energy Commission, which eventually became the US Department of Energy. George loved his work and mainly focused on the quality and safety practices of the many contractors of the DOE's nuclear weapons programs. After retiring in 1983 from DOE, he worked in similar roles for Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA) and as a consultant to Jacobs Engineering.

George and Jo (Velma Jo) were inseparable until her passing in 2010. They loved to travel, garden, western dance, hat parties with their friends, spoiling their grandkids, but mostly, they enjoyed being with each other. George's sense of humor and love kept a smile on Jo's face. George mourned deeply after Jo's passing, cherishing the memories they shared throughout their lives. Although grief weighed heavy on his heart, he found solace in the hope of reuniting with her in heaven, where their love would know no bounds.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jo; his parents, Osma and Clarence; and his older brothers, Fred and Clarence, Jr.

George is survived by his children, Steve (Cheryl) Hauquitz, Scott (Susan) Hauquitz, and Shelly (Kevin) O'Hea, 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and his dear friend Loretta Roe.

George's life will be celebrated on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87122.
Having fought the good fight of faith, George has now found rest in the loving embrace of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
