George De La O, age 72, loving Husband, Father, and Brother passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024. George retired originally from the Albuquerque Police Department in 1991. Serving as a patrol officer, then as a detective in burglary, child abuse, and arson. When promoted to Sergeant he supervised patrol officers then was assigned to internal affairs. During his initial 16 years with APD he served one term as President of the Chicano Police Officers Association 1982-1983. His love of music led him to participate by playing lead guitar with the police band "The Force" performing in schools and at public functions. "The Force" was given the Jefferson Award in 1993.
George was asked back to the Albuquerque Airport Police during Desert Shield and Storm and when that service was no longer needed, he then moved to the school detail and was the Detective for West Mesa High School and Cibola High School.
George earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the University of Albuquerque in 1980, graduating with honors.
After Leaving APD the second time George went to work at Sandia Casino first in Security and then in IT retiring from there in 2013.
In addition to playing with "The Force" George also played with bands "Rick and the entire world" in Gallup, NM and "The Albuquerque Knights".
George is survived by his wife Janis, his children Teri, Daniel (Vanessa), Michael (Laura), De La O grandchildren Kino, Julian, Tesla, Emma, Logan, Locke, and Melissa Moran and one great grandson. He is also survived by a sister Yvonne Huisinga (Ron), and Brothers Richard (Marty), Daniel (Maria). He also leaves loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Preceded in death by his parents Elma and George De La O and his brother Christopher.
A Memorial Service will be held at French - Lomas on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 4120 Cutler Ave NE.
