Mr. Gene L. Ward, Sr. was born on June 3, 1943, in Recklaw, Texas to Leon and Nettie Ward. He went to be with his Savior on Wednesday October 26, 2022, with his wife by his side.
He graduated from Dunbar High School in Knox City, Texas. He moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1968. He would later meet and marry the love of his life Nellie L. Fields-White. Together they created a blended family that consisted of 10 children.
Affectionately known as "Geno" and "Poppie" he was an active member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for more than 18 years. He devoted much of his time to the visitation of the parishioners.
He was employed by Elastimold Corporation for 30 years until his retirement in 2009. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy's fan through thick and thin!
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 48 years, Nellie L. Ward; sister, Marie Ward; brothers, Leon Ward (Hilda), and Gerald (Wife); sons, Robert Boyd-Ward, Gene Ward Jr. (Doris), Jason White, Kenneth Ward, and Tyrone Carter-Ward; daughters, Beverly Arrington, Paula Dixon (Kenneth), Felicia Ward, Olivia Cummingham (Barry), and Terri James.
He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom he loved very much. He further leaves his four favorite Godchildren, Michael Vincent Baty, Ebony Jewel Baty, Mykell Schexnayder, and Nikolaus Schexnayder, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Ward; mother, Nettie Ward; and his brother, Lee Ward.
He was a dedicated husband and Deacon. He will be truly missed.
