Gene Church

R. Eugene Church passed away January 1, 2022 at the age of 87.

Gene was born in Newport News, Virginia.  He graduated from Virginia Tech with an Electrical Engineering degree.  Gene moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1957 and was hired at Sandia Labs as a member of Technical Staff (engineering).  He retired in 1994 with 37 years of service.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sara; sister, Beverly Dail and husband Asa; brother, Robert Church and wife Xandra; sister-in-law, Susanne Stone; stepson, Jack Lee; and many nieces and nephews.  Sadly, his two sons, Phillip Church and Keith Church predeceased him death.

Gene was an Eagle Scout and was very active in the Methodist Church.  He loved to travel, fix gourmet meals, go bird watching and hiking.  He was very talented with his wood carvings and shared what he made with others.  Gene shared his love with many people, and he will certainly be missed.

In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Phillip M. Church Memorial Scholarship Fund at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
