Gary Singer, 84, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on February 20, 2024 after living for many years with the increasing challenges of Parkinson’s Disease.
Gary’s parents were Holocaust survivors and he was born in New York, NY after they immigrated from Austria. He grew up in Saugus, MA with his parents and three sisters. He was a graduate of Northeastern University and earned an honorable discharge for his service in the Army. He had a lengthy and successful career in market research at AC Nielsen.
Gary met his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Singer (née O’Conner) the old fashioned way - he randomly picked her name out of the phone book while on a business trip! With kismet in full swing, they maintained a long distance relationship for two years before marrying and then settling in Port Washington, NY where they raised two children and later moved to Lake Forest, IL.
While Gary had always been an avid photographer, he was able to focus full time on his passion once he retired. When he and Kathy moved to Albuquerque, NM, Wildlight Photography was born, featuring photographs capturing nature, landscapes, and most prominently, birds. Gary truly appreciated the desert and all that it offered, taking great pleasure in "capturing the wild light of the southwest.”
Also in Albuquerque, Gary served as President of Congregation Albert. He became a mentor to some and a partner to many, leading and collaborating with care, dedication, expertise, and his unique sense of humor.
Gary was predeceased by Kathy. He is survived by their two daughters, their son-in-law, two grandchildren, and his three sisters, all of whom love him and wish him lasting peace.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Meals on Wheels New Mexico.
