Gary J. Ele, age 59 died, March 6, 2016 of small cell lung cancer with complications. He is
survived by his mother Carol Jean, sister Ellen, niece Elizabeth Nicole, nephew Michael and family Amy and Zachariah. He is also survived by his uncle William, aunt Janice, cousin David and family, cousin Jody and family, as well as numerous cousins in Missouri. He was interested in many different things through out his life. Loved to travel. He began after graduating Eldorado High School. Traveled with sprint cars and stock cars through out the country. Took time to attend UNM. Joined the Navy in 1987 and served for 13 years. Traveled all over the world serving his country. He was awarded the Navy League US Outstanding Recruit Award, and served aboard the USS Leahy including Desert Storm. He was a plank owner on the USS Shiloh. He was selected sailor of the year AEGIS training center world wide in 1995. After leaving the Navy, he attended culinary school and sailed with NCL cruise line pride of Aloha for 3 years as pastry chef. He was executive pastry chef at Sandia Resort and Casino for 3 years. After leaving there he started his own business with a food truck as OZ Patisserie. He competed nationally and regional for chocolate and pastry. He was generous with his time. Loved being with his family and spending time with his Cocker Spaniel Sammy Joe and Miniature Dachshund Stanley. He enjoyed taking Sammy Joe sailing at Cochiti Lake in his 16 ft. Balboa. Per his wishes he will be cremated. A Gathering is scheduled to remember Gary at The Canyon Club, 911 Four Hills RD SE Albuquerque 87123 on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 2-4 p.m.
