James Garrett (Garry) Davis, age 74, passed away suddenly December 21, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanora and Charles Davis; and his grandson, Noah Zane Davis. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sally; his sons, Charles B. (Bryse) Davis and Zachary Davis (wife, Trisha); and grandchildren, Reina and Aydin Davis, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by three brothers-in-law and their families in Ohio and Wisconsin as well as three cousins and their families in Ohio.
Born April 20, 1941, in Canton, OH, Garry received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1963 from Mount Union College, Alliance, OH and his Master of Arts degree in physiological ecology in 1965 from Williams College, Williamstown, MA.
With his love of science, nature and the sharing of knowledge, Garry became a dedicated teacher, teaching at Midland School, Los Olivos, CA; Blake School in Hopkins, MN; and Cincinnati Country Day School in Cincinnati, OH, before coming to Albuquerque Academy in 1984 where he taught until his retirement in 2006.
Outside of the classroom, Garry enjoyed jazz and Big Band era music, especially pieces that featured saxophone solos, nature photography, and was an avid reader. He was a man of integrity, authentic and straightforward, who cared deeply for his family, friends, colleagues and students.
Cremation has taken place and private graveside services are pending. If desired, a donation in Garry's name may be made to any animal/environmental protection group or library of your choice.
