Gail is survived by her four children, Robert Miller, Carol Miller, Leigh Shoulta, and Allen Miller; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William I. Miller; mother, Frances Lacy; and father, Farrell Lacy; Gail was born in Durango, Colorado and resided in Ignacio, Colorado in her younger years. She moved with her parents throughout the west as her father's work required. Her junior year of high school, they moved to Albuquerque where Gail attended Albuquerque High School. She graduated in 1957. She then attended McMurry College in Amarillo, Texas graduating in 1961 with a degree in Education. She moved back to Albuquerque to live with her mom, while teaching second grade at Mitchell Elementary School. She met her future husband, William Miller, at church. Six months later they married in 1961, at First Presbyterian Church.
She continued teaching until giving birth to her oldest child, at which time she quit teaching and stayed home to raise four children. Gail was a good cook, hosting most of the family get togethers in her home. She also enjoyed being a seamstress, making clothes for herself and her two daughters.
After raising her four children, she went back to teaching, first at Sunset Elementary School, later for APS, at Adobe Acres Elementary School, where she was a reading specialist. She loved her students so much calling them affectionately, "her little guys."
After retirement, mom and dad would travel the world, seeing places they had always wanted to go. Mom would come home sharing their adventures and showing pictures of where they had been.
In retirement, mom also took up quilting. Spending hours in her sewing room creating beautiful quilts. She would use them as wall hangs, giving others to friends and family. Mom was very talented.
After dad died, mom moved into assisted living where she thrived. She couldn't quilt anymore, but she made new friends. She also played bingo, making a quarter every time she won. Joking about what she could buy with her winnings. She also participated in all the holiday celebrations at Care Free Living, enjoying all of them.
To get away from the assisted living for a while, her daughter, Carol would take her to the dollar store where she would go down every aisle looking at things to buy. Upon returning to assisted living, she would pour the bags out on her bed and would carefully look at each item saying, "this is like Christmas."
As she lost her appetite, her desire for vanilla ice cream continued. She would say "this is sooo cold but sooo good." Goodbye mom, I love you very much. You are flying with the angels now.
Thank you to Legacy Hospice for her care and especially thank you to the owners and staff at Care Free Living.
