Passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013. Father Podvin is survived by his sisters, Sister Catherine Podvin, O.P. of Adrian, Michigan, and L. Virginia Podvin of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Armedose and Marie Podvin. Father Podvin was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on February 2, 1923. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Father Podvin's education included: School of St. Philip Neri, Haverhill, MA, St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, WI, Mount St. Mary's Major Seminary, Emmitsburg, MD, St. John's Provincial Seminary, Plymouth, MI, and Mount Angel Major Seminary, Mount Angel, OR. Father Podvin was ordained on May 12, 1952, by Archbishop Edwin V. Byrne at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Father Podvin served the following parishes: St Charles Borromeo, Albuquerque; Our Lady of Sorrows, Manzano; San Juan Nepomuceno, El Rito; San Antonio de Padua, Penasco; San Juan, San Juan Pueblo; St John the Baptist, Santa Fe; St Joseph, Raton; Immaculate Conception, Las Vegas, and Holy Ghost Parish, Albuquerque. In 2004, he retired from Sangre de Cristo Parish in Albuquerque. Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Sangre de Cristo Parish, 8901 Candelaria NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 9:15a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Parish, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish celebrate Mass in honor of Father Podvin.
