Frederick Martin Myers

April 3, 1916 — August 19, 2014

Frederick Martin Myers passed away this past Tuesday, August 19, 2014. He was born on April 3, 1916 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He served in the occupational US Army, stationed in Japan. After his discharge, he earned his BA at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana. Then in 1950, Frederick moved with his family to Albuquerque where he received his Master's degree from the University of New Mexico. He taught in the Albuquerque Public School System until his retirement at age 62. Not one to sit idle, he studied for the deaconate in the Episcopal Church and served as a deacon at both St. Mary's Episcopal Church and at the Cathedral of St. John's. As an avocation, Frederick and his wife Margaret started the not-for-profit organization Teen-Age Study Tours and over the years spent summers taking thousands of New Mexico high school students on educational tours of Western and Eastern Europe. Frederick is survived by his wife of 74 years, Margaret Myers; his three children, Ann, Stephen and Michael; by his four grandchildren, Michelle, Douglas, Adan and Maria Sol; and eight great-grandchildren. His life-long passions with church, education and travel provided him with a full and rewarding life that is to be envied by all. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Episcopal Relief Fund would be appreciated. Memorial services will be held at the Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver Ave SW, on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 2:00 pm.
