On September 19, 2012, Fred Mady, Sr. peacefully ended his 77 year journey of life at home. With Carolyn, his wife of 53 years, in his favorite chair, watching his beloved Detroit Tigers (winning, by the way), Fred closed his eyes for the last time. Fred opened his eyes for the first time when his journey began on May 25, 1935 in Madaba, Jordan. He was the eldest of his parents Rahmeh and Musa's 8 children: sisters Fareeda, Asma, Alice, and Basima, and his brothers Madi, Nasri and Fawaz. For the sake of his family and a lust for adventure, Fred was the first to make the voyage across the pond. He landed in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, at age 16, after an epic voyage (the source of MANY great stories, really). The journey continued... In 1958, at the counter of the Big Boy, Fred saw an angel; 9 months later Fred and Carolyn were married and 3 more angels soon followed ; Rhenee, Fred, Jr., and Haleem. Over the years Fred raised a family and had a successful career in the restaurant business. His journey took him and his family traveling the states until... In 1977, The Mady family landed in Albuquerque and opened Captain Ahab's, a seafood restaurant in the desert (no, really!). The Captain, as Fred was now known, laid down his anchor in the Duke City. The kids were excelling, the family was growing, Fred had never been happier. His flock became 15. Rhenee had Emeera and married David Farrell. Fred wed his true love Amy Kirkpatrick and had Madison, Allison, and Fred's namesake, Fred, III aka 'Boomer'. Haleem met his own angel and wed Karen Kiss. They gave Fred Reagan, Haleem, Jr., and Sarah. Such a flock of angels were such of Fred's dreams. After a lifetime of hard work, Fred retired in 2007, and spent a few years in Seattle with Rhenee and Hal - he DID NOT like the rain. So he and Carolyn became expats on the beaches of Mexico - he DID love the sun. The final member of Fred's family joined him on that beach, Lizzie the coyote poodle. But Albuquerque and family called him home. He was happy in his favorite chair, with Carolyn, Lizzie, visiting family, his Meadows family, and his beloved Tigers on the TV. And so his journey ended on September 19, 2012, God called Fred home where he awaits his flock to join him.Fred's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at French Mortuary on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 11:00am. French is located at 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
