Fred Gardner

d. March 1, 2016

With his wife and daughter by his side, Fred Gardner (72) left this life on March 1, 2016. Fred was beloved by his family and many, many friends. He loved telling jokes and stories, fishing from his boat at Navajo Lake, working on his 1970 Chevelle, hot rods, and being part of the world. Fred worked for many years at Gardner-Zemke, a business co-founded by his father George. He also had his own contracting firm, Skyline Electric. Fred was a mentor and valued colleague to many in the electrical contracting world and he especially loved being an estimator. Fred spent most of his life in New Mexico, aside from a stint in Alaska for the U.S. Army. He was an explorer who loved to be on the go. Fred could fix anything, his knowledge was vast and if he couldn't answer your question, he'd make up something really funny. A motorcycle accident robbed him of the use of his legs, but his injury never defined him - or slowed him down -- and he lived to get the most out of every moment. At his side for over 26 years was his best-friend and beloved wife, June, with whom he shared many adventures. Fred is also survived by his daughter Kelly, her husband Brian and their son Gus. Fred adored Gus and was always ready to show off the latest videos and photos of his grandson. Survivors also include sisters Kathy Getz (Dewey), Peggy Ward (Kent) and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Freddie. His marriage to Patricia Evans ended in divorce. He was preceded in death by his parents Faye and George Gardner and his older brother, Homer. Fred cherished and was cherished by many dear friends, who will miss the happiness he brought to their lives. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas Chapel. Interment will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
