Frank Martinez Jr, 80, entered eternal rest on Friday, October 14, 2016 with the loving support of his wife of nearly 57 years and his children. Frank was born to Francisco and Donaciana E. Martinez in Tucumcari, New Mexico on August 4, 1936. He was a class of 1955 graduate from Tucumcari High School.

In 1956, Frank volunteered and enlisted in the United States Army. While being Stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas he met his beloved wife Alice and married her on November 11, 1959. Frank served his country in numerous assignments around the world including one tour in Vietnam. Throughout his distinguished career, Frank earned many awards and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (w/Silver, 4 Loops), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/4 Bronze Service Stars), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2). His love for the Army brought out the best in Frank while being a soldier which resulted in him retiring from the Army as a Sergeant Major with an honorable discharge after 30 years.

After retiring from the Army, Frank pursued his lifelong dream of furthering his education. In 1991, he earned an Associates degree in General Studies from Central Texas College. In 1996, he earned his Bachelors degree in Universal Studies from the University of New Mexico. And in 2000, Frank reached his ultimate educational goal of earning a Master of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico.

Frank had many hobbies which included panning for gold, fishing, wood carving, collecting art, metal detecting, and shopping for antiques. He had an knack for finding collectibles that had a special quality about them. He also enjoyed passing his time by keeping in touch with all his children, visiting family members and friends that he made along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Martinez and his sisters Stella Baca, Debbie Martinez and Carmen Martinez. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Amelia Martinez; six children: Howard Martinez of Albuquerque, NM., Frank Martinez and his two sons Max and Alexander of Katy, TX., Lisa Ramos and her husband Ricky and their son Patrick of DeSoto, TX., Elaine Scott and her husband Fabian of Killeen, TX. and their son Gabriel Scott and daughter in law Adriana and their children Sophia and Benjamin of El Paso, TX., Mina Morris and her husband Jeff and their daughters Darian and Marisa of Helena, AL., and Diane Martinez of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his two brothers Gilbert Trujillo and Leroy Martinez, and four sisters; Corrine Gutierrez, Lu Ellen Analla, Roberta Dougherty and Marquita Martinez all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by many brother in laws and sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved very much.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Frank on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11509 Indian School Rd NE. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
