Age 89, a life-long resident of Roy, NM passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on Monday, December 29, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Caroline; son, James Maestas (Dolores Gallegos); daughters, Geraldine Maestas, Karen George (William), and Arlene Maestas; grandsons, Joshua George and Zachary Vigil; sisters, Margaret Baca, Tillie Cruz (Patricio), Martha Ebell (Andres) and Mary Tapia (Zeke); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Eusebio Maestas; son, Paul Maestas; brothers, Francis Maestas and Joe Maestas; and sisters, Gertrude Cruz and Priscilla LaRoux. He was born in 1925 in Mills, NM and graduated from Roy High School. After graduation he proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Frank attended and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from New Mexico Highlands University where he met his wife, Caroline. They were married in 1955. He was a teacher with the Mosquero Municipal Schools for 37 years. After retirement from the schools, he and his wife spent as much time with their family in Albuquerque and Montezuma. Frank enjoyed fishing and teaching his family how to fish. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Rosary will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy, NM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. A second Rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd NE in Albuquerque followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. A Reception will follow at the church and interment will take place with Military Honors at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
