Frank D. Gomez, 57, beloved husband, father, and “Papa”, was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday, October 30, 2022, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He entered this world on December 10, 1964, in Estancia, NM, born to Juan and Leonor Gomez. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rebecca (Becky) Alonzo-Gomez; his daughter Nina Gomez and her 2 daughters Monet and Autumn; his son Frank Gomez Jr., wife Christy, and their 4 children Frank III, Dylan, Alexander, and Rome Capri; his godsons Leonardo Alonzo and Simon Lueras; his father Juan Gomez (Berlinda); his brothers Johnny Gomez, Ronnie Gomez (Diane), Charlie Gomez (Diane), Paul Gomez (Paula), Chris Gomez (Nellie), and Samuel Gomez (Brandi); aunt Viola Chavez; uncle Tony Maldonado (Rosemary); godfather Juan Maldonado; godmother Maryann Maldonado-Liberfinger; as well as many beloved brothers and sisters-in law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his brother Johnny Jr.; mother Leonor; grandparents Egripina and Candido Chavez and Lucio and Dominga Gomez.
Frank and his wife Becky were childhood sweethearts and spent 41 wonderful years raising their family, traveling, and taking care of their grandchildren. All of the kids have fond memories of many happy gatherings for movie nights, riding bicycles, hiking, fishing, playing basketball, and reading the bible with Papa.
Frank worked hard to provide for his family, serving in the US Air Force from 1982–2005 with assignments in California, Nevada, Korea, and 16 years at Kirtland, AFB NM. During this time, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with emphasis in data information systems and human resources management from the College of Santa Fe at Albuquerque. After military service, Frank worked for the USDA Rural Development and Forest Service organizations, most recently as the Human Resources Officer for the USFS NM/AZ Region.
Frank was passionate about the Good Shepherd Center’s mission and vision, where he served as a volunteer and board member. He also loved sports, volunteering as a coach in the NM Young American Football league, golfing with his buddies Lou and Curt every weekend, and spending the majority of his life attending each of his son’s sporting events, “always in his corner”.
Frank passed away peacefully at home with his wife, his daughter, and his son by his side. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, coach, brother, advisor, and friend. His generosity, guidance, and helpfulness to others will be missed by all.
