Francis Joseph Steele of Albuquerque, NM passed away unexpectedly, Friday, August 5, 2022, at the age of 75 following unforeseen complications of lung cancer due to his exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Joe was born in Providence RI to Peg and Francis Meyer, and after the death of his father in the Korean War, his new family moved to Albuquerque where he was adopted by his stepfather, Dick Steele. Joe graduated from Sandia High School and the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lynn; mother-in-law, Donna; siblings, Kathy (Russ), and Rich (Beth P.); former wife, Tanya; stepchildren, Jana and Lori, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, Austin, and Adam; great-granddaughter, Regan; niece, Sarah, and many Meyer relatives and extended family members. He is predeceased by his father, stepfather, and mother.
A world traveler, Joe was known and loved everywhere he went. He was always the life of the party, and he reached out to provide friendship, loyalty, and sound counseling to his vast community of relatives, friends, professionals and acquittances that spread across the globe. Kindness was his middle name. Joe was a loving husband, father, sibling, and friend, and he will be sorely missed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent directly to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) charitable service trust.
The DAV spearheaded the Agent Orange Act to ensure that veterans serving in Vietnam exposed to Agent Orange would qualify for VA disability and health benefits.
Below is the link for the donation site. Please add Joe Steele's name as the Honoree as well as check the notification box of your donation so that his wife, Lynn Steele will be notified. Thank you.
