Frank Chiado, age 62, longtime Albuquerque resident and beloved husband, father, brother, and "Boppa," died peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, September 9, 2021, surrounded by family. Born Francis William, to JoAnn and John Paul Chiado at the old St. Joseph's Hospital on September 23, 1958, Frank was known as "Pancho" to some and "Frankie" to a select few.
He graduated from Our Lady of Fatima and St. Pius X (1976) and worked his way up in the family lumber business (Lumber Inc.), where he treasured the good fortune to work with so many family members. He became a fixture in the national lumber industry and a respected mentor known for his knowledge and work ethic.
Frank knew the good things in life: family, food, and the great outdoors. He married his sweetheart, Kelly, on September 29, 1984, and the two remained best friends and teammates for the next 36 years.
Built for the mountain life, Frank especially enjoyed fishing, hiking, and spent much of his time with his wife in Pagosa Springs, CO, where they owned a beautiful cabin complete with an outdoor kitchen and often hosted family and friends. Together with Kelly, both there and in ABQ, he loved to cook; their meals were the stuff of legends.
Frank had great taste in music and saw many of his favorites in concert, like Willie Nelson, Joe Bonamassa, and the one and only Eric Clapton. He loved "the blues," rock & roll, and old country.
Frank had a wry sense of humor and a near encyclopedic knowledge of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Never a loud man, his rare laughter could be relied on to bring joy to those around him.
Frank was also an accomplished gardener, cultivating beautiful roses and vegetables. He had a generous and caring spirit which allowed beautiful things to thrive around him. Frank is survived by his wife, Kelly, of Bernalillo, NM; son, Nicholas, of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Kayla (Daniel Walters) and two grandchildren, Avery Lee and Henry Walters of Olive Branch, Mississippi; sister, Janet Wilson (Fred); and brothers, John (Angela), Joe (Suzie), Pat, and Michael (Carlyn); as well as many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends, including Rick Baughman. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, and beloved sister-in-law, Patsy Chiado.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd, NE, Rio Rancho, NM beginning at 11:30 a.m., with Tom Barker, Kyle Wilson, and Brent, Michael, Kurt, and Tony Chiado as pallbearers; burial at Mount Calvary and reception to follow.
