Frances Jo Dils Roehrig was born in Belen, NM, on Wednesday, January 12, 1927. She was the second child of Fred and Corra Dils. Her older sister was Ruth Ellen Huning, and her younger brother was Tommy Fred Dils.
In 1943 the New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro hosted the Army Specialized Training Program, and the good folks of Belen bussed their young ladies down to dances with the Army engineering students. It was at one of these dances that Charles Roehrig decided that he had fallen for that small town majorette. After Charles came home from World War II, they were married on Thursday, May 23, 1946. They moved to Charles' home town of Louisville, KY, where their son Donald was born in 1948 and son Stephen was born in 1950. Soon after, Charles and Frances packed up their two sons and moved back to Belen, NM. After a few years, Charles got a job at Sandia Labs, and the family moved to Albuquerque. Frances worked for a short time as a dental assistant, then treasured the rest of her career as a nurse. During her years working for Dr. Denzler, they delivered an amazing number of babies that she kept up with throughout her life. When she finally decided to retire in 1981, Dr. Denzler decided that without her, he needed to retire as well. Charles, Frances, and Donnie subsequently moved to Laguna Vista, a small mountain community in northern New Mexico, where they worked diligently to build their lovely home. Over the next 20 years, they also took time out to travel throughout the US and overseas. It was here on the mountain top that Frances created most of her art that family and friends still cherish.
When Charles passed away in 2007, Frances and Donnie decided to continue living amongst their many friends in Laguna Vista and the surrounding area. In 2018 Frances and Donnie moved to Albuquerque.
Frances leaves her son Donnie; son Steve and wife Mary; granddaughters Nicole and partner Jesse Riddle; Jessica and husband Robin Vervenne; grandson Nate and wife Chamisa; great-grandchildren Cole and Owen Roehrig. She also leaves many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
