Frances Cassino, 93, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 6, 2015. She is survived by her long-time ranch manager and friend, Ernest Ortiz, his wife, Kim, and their children; long-time friend, Delores Moncayo, Delores' husband, Johnny, and also by her horse, Curley. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; her brother, Anthony Gomes; her parents, Stella and Tony Gomes, and her beloved dog, Rufus. Frances was an educator and received her undergraduate degree from UNM. She went on to obtain her Master's Degree and Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkley. She liked to be known as a "Berkley Girl." She taught Spanish at Albuquerque High School and Monzano High School. Frances also taught at UNM. She had a lifelong love for Morgan horses and took the time to teach her students how to ride. Frances was also active in Town Club at UNM. Rosary will be recited Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Rosary will be led by Delores Moncayo. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., following the Rosary. Deacon Andrew Chavez will officiate. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
