Florinda Maria Lopez

Florinda Maria Lopez, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Florinda was born on March 13, 1928, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the San Jose Community. The daughter of Simon and Nettie Barela, Florinda was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, where she was an excellent student. Florinda fulfilled her life as a devoted Mother, Wife, Sister and Friend. A consummate mother and homemaker, Florinda was an excellent cook and nourished people around her with love, faith and listening.

Florinda was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Pedro M. Lopez, after 58 years of marriage. Her daughters, son-in-law and grandson, are Loretta and Eliseo Tafoya, Lourdes Straquadine and son, Justin Straquadine, Linda Lopez and Partner Chad Brey and son, Jacob Brey. Florinda is also survived by her sister, Marcella Lerma; and preceded in death by her sisters, Theresa Sanchez, Genevieve Zamora, Margaret Corona; and brothers, Demetrio Barela, Carmen Barela and Louie Barela.  Also touching Florinda's life was her care giver, Pauline Paz, who provided such compassion, kindness, wisdom and dedication. Pauline was her best friend and the family will forever be grateful to her along with the Hospice of New Mexico team, who also provided such compassion, expertise and professionalism.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Westside. A Funeral Service celebrating Florinda's life will be held the following day on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at San Jose Parish located at 2401 Broadway S.E. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
