Born October 3, 1936, age 76, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2012, in Irmo South Carolina. Florence was born in Albuquerque, NM. She was the wife of the late Melvin Douglas Norlander, to whom she was married 50 years. Together they raised four children. She was preceded in death by her father Gilbert H. Hawkinson and Mother Jennie F. Hicks; and sisters, Mary Grandjean and Frances Cosby. She is survived by her children; Roy Norlander, Diane Crook, Michael Norlander, and Janet Van Why; her sister, Betty Haakon; grandchildren Heather Lako, Jenny Crook, Aubrey Tillotson, and Nathan Norlander; her great-grandchildren Eliza Lako, Chloe Lako, and Kharma Tillotson; as well as step grandchildren, nephews, nieces, in-laws, many friends, and her beloved dog Tipper. In her early life Florence worked for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company and retired from APS Food Service. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. What mattered most to Florence was; spending time with her family and the Lord. She enjoyed holidays and specials occasions and spent a lot of time in decorating and preparing for the occasions. She faithfully gave to many charitable organizations in her lifetime. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A small memorial service for Florence will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Center of Worship, 2201 Estancia NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Flowers can be sent to the church the day of the service or donations can be given to organizations that help children such as Samaritan's Purse, Florence's favorite Charity in lieu of flowers.
